Back to the import stuff we’re more familiar with, Corey Hosford’s wild Rocket Bunny Boss kitted S14 was snapping necks in the Auto Meter booth, and its turbo V8 is rumoured to make up to 1500-hp. Damn.
Once we were done drooling over Hosford’s S14, we were immediately intrigued by Auto Meter‘s new AirDrive System. Plug that little OBD2 dongle into the OBD2 port on your car and it sets up a Wifi network that connects to the gauges, drastically simplify installation and allowing you to configure the gauges for colour as well as high/low warning lights and all that good stuff. Brilliant idea!
Auto Meter’s new DashLink system is also very clever, letting you turn a tablet into a fully customizable gauge cluster using that same OBD2 dongle. Also, we love using the word ‘dongle’. Dongle. Yup, said it again.
Over in the K&N Filters booth they had all sorts of badass air intakes, but for whatever reason I was struck by the coolness of these washable cabin filters. Maybe that’s because I recently changed the cabin filter in my MDX and was shocked by how disgustingly dirty it was. I’ll be making a point of changing these more often, or better yet I’ll just upgrade to a K&N and just give it a good cleaning once a year. Oh, and that engine shot with the K&N air filters? Porn.
Have you ever been under your car and you notice an AN fitting is leaking a bit. The next part of this story involves you searching for the correct size AN wrench, only to give up and use a steel plumber’s wrench that damages the fittings. After that there’s swearing, but thanks to Earl’s Performance you can rewrite this script by adding this adjustable AN wrench to your tool box. Thanks Holley!
Solving another one of those annoying AN fitting problems is this new Vapor-Guard hose and hose ends collection from Earl’s. No more pricking your finger tips with braided ss hoses while trying to get the fittings on, just press these fittings into the neoprene and rubber fuel hose for a secure and vapor tight fit. Genius!
We saw Holley’s HydraMat at PRI last year, but it’s a technology that continues to amaze. This giant fuel filter/fuel pickup magnetically attaches to the bottom of the gas tank and picks up fuel effortlessly even on steeply banked or high G corners. As far as we can tell it works via patent-pending witchcraft, but we’ll have to test one out sometime soon to learn more.
Project mU is another high quality Japanese product line distributed by Mackin Industries, and we can tell you firsthand experience that their Club Racer brake pads and G-four brake fluid are truly top notch motorsport-grade stuff. In fact, it’s a well kept secret that Project mU pads are on a large number of NASCAR race cars.
Optima Batteries had a bunch of badass machines in their Center Hall booth, including this old school Datsun pickup with a Miata engine swap that competes in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge.
Prerunner style old school truck? Yes, please!
In the increasingly crowded 86-FRS-BRZ supercharger space, Eaton has just released this TVS1320 based blower kit. It appears to make about 250-whp on an otherwise stock FR-S, which puts it right in the mix with the other kits on the market.
GM had a bunch of new Camaro concepts in their booth, all of which looked quite promising to us. The new Alpha chassis is much stiffer and lighter than the previous gen, a fact we experienced firsthand while testing the RS model at AJAC‘s Canadian Car Of The Year TestFest last week. We should have a video on that test drive on our YouTube soon.
We took a good, close look at Turbonetics’ new TNX line of dual ball bearing turbochargers and were very impressed by their compact design and power potential. We think they’re very well suited to the tight engine bays of many of our favourite Japanese performance cars.
And last but not least in the ASS2000’s better dressed brother from another mother, Evasive’s freshly built AP2 with Voltex everything. It has a V-mount setup up front, which can only mean it’s got a turbo under the hood.
And hey, don’t forget to check out our Day 1 video coverage of the SEMA Show, which covers all of the above and a bunch more.
