Project ASS2000:
Mishimoto Coolers + AEM Dual Chamber Intake

PT handling some hose like a champ!

We completed the cooling package with Mishimoto’s silicone rad hose kit, since like everything else on the ASS2000, the original rad hoses were cracked and generally very tired looking. We installed these on the engine side prior to dropping the motor back in the engine bay, so after that all Pete had to do was attach them to the upper and lower outlets on the rad.

These direct fit hoses are preformed for the S2000 and are built using an outer layer of high grade silicone (black in our case, but can be ordered in red or blue as well) along with a heat-resistant embedded fibers inner layer (orange) to provide efficient heat reduction and increased pressure tolerance.

With the rad and oil cooler installs complete, Pete moved on to installing the AEM dual chamber intake system. We’ve used AEM intakes on a ton of vehicles over the years and they always deliver on the advertised power gains, but we will of course report back once we put the ASS2000 on the dyno again. A lot of R&D goes into developing each AEM intake system, including many hours on the dyno fine tuning the length, diameter and bend radius of the tubing.

As you can see above, this intake uses AEM’s dual chamber design, meaning the tubing diameter is stepped up. This creates multiple frequency sound waves that help charge the cylinders with more air, allowing these systems to outperform a traditional single diameter cold air intake. As George Hsieh from AEM Intakes told me, “The Dual Chamber design also functions like a surge tank, so the extra internal volume is there to absorb sudden pressure increase when the throttle closes as well as to provide air supply during sudden drop in pressure when the throttle is wide open.”

In the case of the S2000 Dual Chamber intake, the Dryflow filter is located inside the protected low pressure area in front of the passenger side wheel well and behind the bumper cover. And as we’ve told you about before, AEM’s synthetic Dryflow filters are washable and oil-free for easy cleaning, durable service, and excellent overall filtration, plus they come with a limited Lifetime Warranty.

I’m now on my 94th flu of the year, but we’re still going full steam ahead on the ASS2000, so expect another update very soon, including images of it sitting on the ground, on all four wheels, ready to move under its own power! But in the meantime, here’s our video recap of all the goodies discussed above.

See you on the Internet soon!

CDerian I’m not following here, where should we have used a gasket?
