I decided now would be as good a time as ever to replace the stock intercooler with an AMS Performance IC that provides superior flow and cooling capabilities. Also, note how the bumper bar has built in ducts for added air flow to the intercooler, gotta love the pure performance engineering on this!

One of the pieces that will be reused on the Evo IX bumper is the metal support bracket that runs around the upper edge of the VII bumper.

The rivets need to be painstakingly drilled out for it to come off.

Once the bracket is removed from the VIII bumper it’ll need to be riveted in place onto the IX one.

Now comes the task of bolting in the mesh grilles. Once again, the VIII bumper will be pillaged for parts. This time screws, you’ll need them to secure the grilles.

The center vent grille is one of the few grilles that transfer over directly from the Evo VIII bumper so I didn’t bother buying it and just re-used my VIII one.

Most people don’t tend to transfer over the intercooler sprayer but I did so by removing the entire setup from the VIII bumper. If you plan to ditch the IC sprayer, you’ll still need that lower metal bracket as it attaches to the mesh grille of the IX bumper.

Sadly, that bracket doesn’t bolt up. You can buy the right one, which I forgot to do so I simply zip tied it onto the IX bumper. It required a few holes to be drilled but surprisingly it’s on there nice and tight.

The rest of the IC sprayer hose can be plumbed up the sides of the bumper so it matches the routing of the VIII one.

The IX bumper has a much different air scoop for the oil cooler so don’t forget to buy this item and install it.

How the fuck are you going to put the Evo 9 bumper on the Evo 8 when the bumper upper reinforcement bar is discontinued part number 6400A370. Don’t make how unless it’s 100% legit.
