You’re going to have to drill holes to mount the roll bar so choose a drill bit just a tad smaller than the bar’s mounting hole and get to it!
The drilling doesn’t stop until you’ve got all four corners done. To ensure that the bar wasn’t moving when I was drilling, I’d slip a bolt through the hole right after I made it. That way the next hole you drill will line up with the others.
Using the supplied mounting hardware, secure the roll bar’s main hoop to the floor.
Since I was planning on installing the rear interior around the roll bar, I placed the plastic side trim back in its original location.
I found a smaller diameter bar in my scrap metal bin and taped one side of it so that it was thick enough to fit snuggly inside the inner diameter of the roll bar.
Sorry for the dark photo but if you look hard enough, you’ll see a marker was placed inside the tube and used as a means of marking where I would have to drill the hole that the bar would slide through.
I repeated this on the other side then removed both pieces of plastic and drilled pilot holes where the marks were.
Find a whole saw just slightly larger then the tubing, if you don’t have one then any other cutting device will do but the whole saw ensures a clean round cut, which makes for a much cleaner install.
Well that was easy, trimming the plastic barbs actually took longer than cutting the holes.
Are you running a 5 or 6 point harness? If so, how and what did you mount the submarine belt to?
Love the site by the way!
marsh5 I’m in the process of doing the same thing, I was told to just drill a hole through the floor and use a 3/8″ grade-8 bolt and some washer to install it. There’s a video for the targa car build that shows exactly where you should be drilling.
Good luck.
marsh5 Hey Marsh,
I’m running a 4-point setup but will be going to a 6 point come spring and will go through how to install it and post a story.
As FunctionFrist mentioned it’s not a complicated job, just drill the floor. Check out this video: http://youtu.be/3XAzuzkOyNI
