With the core’s shape finalized (I’ll explain the black coating in Part 2), we got back to work on the mounts so we could bolt it up for more test-fitting. That meant cutting the square tube to length and thru-bolting it to the L-bars and then drilling a few vertical holes through the square tube as mounting points to the splitter.
For mockup purposes we just used three long bolts thru the tube, but we’ll be riveting threaded rivnuts into the tube so we can attach the splitter without having to fuss with a nut on the backside of the tube. The idea here is to make the splitter as easy as possible to remove from the car from the underside, so no fussing with hardware on the topside of the splitter. The ASS2000 was Peter’s daily driver this summer and may be again next summer and we’re pretty sure he won’t need the added downforce when grocery shopping. So a wingless and splitterless S2K for the street, but a winged and splittered beast for the track is part of the master plan.
In Part 2 we’ll show you the finishing process Kevin used on the core to strengthen it (including that mysterious black coating) before carbon wrapping it. Stay tuned for lots of fun composites work and one badass looking splitter in the new year!

Thats really cool. I need to try and do this someday.
It totally is! being able to see the splitter take shape first hand is pretty informative!
How did you wrap the edges
Hi Cody. The edges were wrapped with the first top and bottom side layers by draping the carbon fabric over the edges and treated them with resin just like the rest of the layer. Then Kevin trimmed off the excessive that hung down past the edge so he could flip the splitter over and repeat the process on the other side. Does that make sense?
I’d like one for my GTI. How can I get in touch with c3?
Hi Dave Pratte, glad to see you still have your green Civic. One bad ass track car, looks like business has been good for you.
I am building a splitter for my car this winter and enjoy your article.
Cheers, for a old Solo 1 friend.
